Good day!

The Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments (PPACG) is spearheading an exciting effort to create a 20-year sustainability plan for the Pikes Peak region.  PPACG successfully completed Phase I of the Sustainability Project in December 2010.  During Phase I, PPACG worked with over 70 organizations and individuals who collectively contributed over 1,000 professional hours to develop 20-year sustainability “stretch goals” for El Paso and Teller counties. Goals were created for the areas of transportation, built and natural environment, economic development, energy and water, materials management, health, education, and arts and culture.  These goals are referred to as "stretch goals" because they will require fundamental changes in order to be met.

Currently we are in Phase II of the Sustainability Project, during which focus groups and PPACG staff will be identifying baseline data, metrics and developing measurable strategies to reach our long-term stretch goals.  The Consensus Committee (an oversight committee consisting of elected officials, stakeholder representatives and community leaders) will be responsible for approving the recommendations from the focus groups.  Please see attached document regarding Phase II timeline and the goals.

This Monday, we are convening a meeting with arts/culture and education representatives to review the preliminary data we’ve compiled for the goals and to start the discussion of strategy development for our long-term arts/culture and education goals.   The meeting will be this Monday, April 4th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm in the lower-level conference room at PPACG, 15 S. 7th St., Colorado Springs, CO 80905.  Please find the agenda and a draft arts/culture and education assessment report.

Although we have education and arts and culture representatives on our Consensus Committee, we still need more subject matter experts and stakeholder representatives to participate in our focus group discussions for these goals.  Since you are involved in the arts, culture and/or education communities, I’m hoping that you or someone you know can participate in this effort and attend the upcoming meeting.

I apologize for this last minute appeal to you, but unfortunately Monday was the only day that we could schedule this meeting.  I hope that you are able to attend the meeting, but please let me know if you are at all interested or able to attend.  If you would like more information about the Pikes Peak Regional Sustainability Project or have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.   You may also visit our website at

Very truly yours,

Sarah D. White
